Unfortunately, not all spa manufacturers see eye-to-eye on hot tub insulation. While some of the higher quality brands like Jacuzzi offer high-density and fully foamed hot tub insulation, other “budget” brands often substitute the latter for an inexpensive alternative which sacrifices the end user experience. Long term cost of ownership is ultimately determined by how efficient your appliances operate, and insulation is a major factor for anything that regulates heat. While it’s true that hot tub insulation is mainly about keeping hot water hot by providing thermal protection, it’s much more than that alone. You see, when the components of a spa turn on, such as the pumps -and in some cases air blowers- they naturally generate movement and vibration which in turn can cause the plumbing of the spa to also vibrate, often substantially. Introducing The All New Jacuzzi J-215 Hot Tub

With the introduction of the J-225 hot tub model for 2017, Jacuzzi also added one more new model to the mix. The J-215 hot tub completes the 2-3 person model line up for the brand. 4 Person Hot Tub

The Real 4 Person Hot Tub

When is a 6 person hot tub not a 6 person hot tub? When it’s a 4 person hot tub! I know it sounds weird but let me explain. It is not uncommon to read a brochure and look at a hot tub that is 7′ X 7′ (84″ X 84″) only to look at the “seats” or “seating capacity” section and see “6” or “6 adults.”

While a hot tub of that size may in fact have a total of 6 seats in it, that doesn’t necessarily mean you can actually fit 6 adults in it. Well, not comfortably anyway. The reality is, a hot tub of that size is a real and true 4 person hot tub. Four people means 8 legs and 8 legs need a lot of space. Plus, if you have a hot tub with a lounge seat, then you are going to find in some cases, even 4 people is a tight fit.

That said, think about how you are going to use your hot tub. Is it going to be you and your significant other 95% of the time? Then maybe you have 4+ people in there once or twice a year? Thats great because that how most people use their hot tub. In that case, a 7′ x 7′ hot tub without a lounge seat, like our J-345, would be perfect for the way you use your hot tub. Would you like a hot tub with a lounge though? Then we would probably recommend going a size up to our J-355 model.

Now, for those of you that truly want the ability to seat 6 people in your hot tub on a regular basis, then our recommendation would be to go no smaller than something like our J-385. In fact, the J-495 would really be the best way to accommodate that number of people on a regular basis. Hot Tub Electrical

Since this topic is absolutely unavoidable when shopping for a hot tub, we thought it would be a good idea to take a deep dive and explain. When it comes to hot tub electrical, there are two types used and what we we call a couple sub-categories.

First, you are going to have 120v electrical. This is is the same kind of power that energizes the plugs you normally use in your home to power things like a toaster, hair dryer, or even a television. It is important to note that even though you may already have this in your backyard, it may not be suitable for a 120v hot tub. The length of your electrical run is going to determine the gauge of wire needed to operate a hot tub at a certain amperage rating (note: while Jacuzzi’s 120v Hot Tubs operate on a 15a circuit, some brands require a 20a service). So, in this case, it is recommended that an electrician verify your outdoor plug is capable of handling those electrical loads. You also want to install a weatherproof, outdoor electrical cover for your outlet which can be found at most hardware stores.

The second type of hot tub electrical, and the most common, used for out door hot tubs is 240v. There are generally three different variations of this used:

3-wire 240v used on Jacuzzi’s dedicated 240v hot tubs (1 ground wire, 2 hot wires)
4-wire 240v used on Jacuzzi’s convertible models (J-315, J-325, J-210) and many other brands (1 ground, 1 neutral, 2 hot wires)
6-wire 240v used on a couple other industry brands (2 separate circuits requiring 4 hot wires, 1 ground, 1 neutral)

With all electrical, especially something like 240 volts that is being used in conjunction with water, it is very important to use a licensed, insured electrician for installation. We can’t stress this enough. If the electrician is even slightly unfamiliar with what needs to be done, please, please, please have them contact us. We are happy to help. What does SpaGuard TRIO do?

A couple times a week we get someone asking what SpaGuard TRIO does for their hot tub. So we thought we would take a few minutes to explain the benefits of what TRIO does and how it not only makes water care easier, but it also prolongs the life of your hot tub components.

When you first open you TRIO box, you will notice it contains three distinct compartments of product. In the first is the TRIO startup packet. This packet first contains a proprietary blend of water softening agents. This will give your water that “soft” feeling without stripping your water of vital calcium which is required to keep your water balanced. This packet also does a couple other things. It prevents said calcium as well as minerals from accumulating on your hot tubs equipment making the most important parts of your hot tub last longer. It also helps to prevent biofilms, the protective layer around bacteria, from forming in your hot tub. This means less demand on the sanitizer you use with TRIO keeping your hot tub cleaner. The last thing this packet does is prevent your pH from drifting meaning less time spent adjusting your water chemistry. Oh yeah, its smells good too!

The next compartment contains 12 smaller packets. These are to be use once a week, no measuring required. These all contain a small amount of the same blend from packet number one, as well as an oxidizer to break down contaminants like sweat, skin, and body oil. This means your water is cleaner, clearer, and more sanitary.

Your last compartment contains the third step of SpaGuard TRIO. This is the purge packet and is there to be used prior to draining your hot tub. Simply add this last packet, run your hot tub for 20 minutes, then drain. This clears all of your plumbing of any organics in the water and insures pristine water on fill up.
